Al Metallurgist for Grede (Vasser, MI)

Last week Bill Marlott at Grede's Vasser operation asked me to email Saginaw Valley ASM members with a posting for an Aluminum Metallurgist to help start up and expand their new semisolid aluminum casting process.   The semisolid process will start up  in Vasser, then expand to multiple plants if their business plans are realized.

They are looking for BS/MS level metallurgical or materials engineers with some Al casting experience, semisolid preferred.    They will consider PhD's.  The salary range is competitive.

Potential candidates can contact Bill for details at (989) 823-7447.

After years of service as our reservations and tickets chair, Mark Grauf is retiring due to a change in job location.  We are so grateful for his service to the chapter.  Mark was the official prognosticator when we estimated attendance for restaurants, and attended all but about 2 meetings over the past 12 years.  That's probably the best attendance record for the entire chapter.

We need to replace Mark, especially in his role as our reservations contact.  Can you keep a list of reservations?  If so, we need to hear from you -- contact Dave Paluch to volunteer:  989-757-0423 or david.1.paluch@gm.com

SHORT TERM VOLUNTEER NEEDS

We need someone to work with Vince Brooks to mail chapter information to potential sustaining members this fall and make a single followup call to each one.   Contact Vince at Vincent.j.brooks@delphi.com.

We’re also forming an ad-hoc regional committee to plan a 1 day “Student Materials Camp” which will be held at the Materials Science & Technology conference at Cobo Hall, Sept. 17-20, 2007.   If you enjoy working with kids, are good at planning and organizing, or want to network with ASM and TMS members in the Detroit area, please let Peg Jones know:   peggy.jones@gm.com.

The Golf Committee can always use extra hands to sell raffle tickets, take photos, and hand out prizes.  Please contact Rick Kerr if you can help:   (810) 257-2916, or rick.kerr@delphi.com.  Or, just come to Swan Valley Golf Course anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sat. Sept. 9.
